About Course

Technology cuts across all facets of life, professions, and endeavours. It also makes it possible and easy for humans to solve complex problems, the basic things required for a stress-free life. Concerning the transport sector as a case study, mankind in the past had to convey goods and services on foot and on the tired backs of beasts such as donkeys, these means of transportation were time-consuming, time-wasting and stressful. Over the century, the impact of technology has been felt in the transport sector as far as speed and ease of mobility are concerned. Currently, China leads the world as the country with the fastest bullet train called the Shanghai Maglev.

  • Shanghai Maglev: The world’s fastest operational train, the Shanghai Maglev uses electromagnets to float above the tracks, reducing resistance and allowing for higher speeds.

Basic Technology as a course opens a young mind to the myriads of opportunities in the fields of Biomedical Engineering, Material Engineering, Software Engineering, Nuclear physics, Civil Engineering, Data Analysis, Mechatronics, Automobile Engineering, Aeronautics Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Space Engineering etc. These fields are lucrative and ranked among the highest-paid jobs world wide.

Join me as we delve into the world of innovation, creativity and technology, as we explore our God-given abilities to solve basic and complex needs in the course of Basic Technology.

Basic Technology JSS 1
Technology is defined as the application of scientific knowledge to solve human needs and improve comfort. It encompasses processes and products that make life easier and more efficient. The term derives from the Greek words techne (craft) and logia (study), indicating a systematic approach to crafting solutions for various challenges faced by humanity. Types of Technology There are three primary categories of technology: Developed Technology: This includes modern methods and applications, such as airplanes, cars, and advanced healthcare equipment. Under-Developed Technology: Refers to traditional methods that rely on indigenous practices, like horse-drawn carts or manual farming tools. Developing Technology: This type combines elements of both developed and under-developed technologies, often seen in countries like Nigeria where basic modern techniques are integrated with traditional practices. Importance of Technology Technology plays a crucial role in various aspects of life: Improved Standard of Living: Enhancements in transportation, communication, and healthcare have significantly raised living standards. Economic Growth: Technological advancements contribute to infrastructure development, such as better roads and electricity supply. Health Care Improvements: Modern medical technologies lead to better diagnosis and treatment options, reducing mortality rates. Industrialization: Technology facilitates mass production and efficiency in manufacturing processes. Enhanced Agricultural Practices: Mechanization allows for larger-scale food production, improving food security. Technology-Related Professions Several professions are directly linked to technology, including but not limited to: Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Civil Engineering Medicine (including various specialties) Architecture Agricultural Science These fields require a solid understanding of technological principles to innovate and improve systems within their respective domains. Conclusion Understanding technology is essential for students in Basic Technology as it equips them with the knowledge to navigate a world increasingly driven by technological advancements. The curriculum aims to foster technological literacy, enabling students to utilize tools effectively and prepare for careers in various technology-related fields.
